Another great evening put on by the Canadian Home Builders Assocation in Kamloops.
The 7th annual Keystone Awards event was held at TRU Grand Hall, with awards being handed out in 27 categories including landscaping. The Glenmohr home which won was a backyard transformation into a park-like space.
The award-winning project included a black Siberian limestone patio - perfect for entertaining, drought-tolerant planting, a dry creek bed, grass areas, and a meandering stream ending in a pond.
We put the finishing touch on this exterior living space complementing the extensive renovation by DW Builders.

Builders celebrate excellence at annual Keystone Awards Ground Sense Landscaping, Homex Development Corp. top list of winners September 26, 2010 By MEL ROTHENBURGER Editor, The Daily News "There was a lineup in the photo room at the annual 2010 Keystone Awards on Saturday night — sponsors just had to wait their turn for the official trophy-presentation pictures with the night's big winner. Jason Benson made four trips to the stage to collect awards for Best Landscape Design project under $30,000, Best Landscape Design Project $30,000 and over, Best Creation of a Unique Feature-Exterior, and Best Marketing Project-Landscape. Several hundred attended the annual trophy fest hosted by the Central Interior Branch of the Canadian Home Builders Association at the TRU Grand Hall to honour excellence in the home-building industry. For Benson, it was vindication of a dramatic career change — only a few short years ago he was a top chef at many of the city's major restaurants, but gave it up to start Ground Sense Landscaping. And he's never regretted it. "I just love it," he said after enjoying his round of presentation photos. "Every day is such a joy to get up and go to work." Benson employs a half-dozen staff plus at least that many contractors, limiting himself to 20 clients year, about 60 per cent new homes and 40 per cent renos. He's already fully booked for next year...." click here to read full article ... >>

On May 2nd, the gorgeous Valleyview home was featured in the Kamloops Art Gallery's 'Home Tour'. An overwhelming positive response to the home and exterior landscaping features. Our team created the 50 foot pondless waterfall that dissappears into the patio pavers. The home is situated on the river, with the 50 foot stream is located on the east side in the back of the home. Attendees on the day of the event had a chance to actually 'Name the Waterfeature' with the final winning name yet to be picked by the homeowners. There were creative names such as 'Rivers Edge Creek', 'Seamless Serenity', 'Meandering Moment', 'Boulder Brook' and 'Lowe Falls' - all very fitting with this hand-sculpted feature. With over a couple hundred unique rocks, pebbles and boulders, Jason chose specific pieces of slate for the water to cascade in teirs as it drops along the distance. Hilary, the homeowner, worked with Jason one-on-one through the whole process. They both brought their own thoughts to the project transforming a huge piece of dirt to a trickling brook - which she can hear every morning from her open kitchen windows.
To make this feature over-the-top, they both decided to make the stream disappear under the patio as if the pond reappears on the west side of the home. This pond is situated closer to the river's edge. As you stand from any one of the indoor or outdoor patios, the pond looks like shimmering glass on a clear Kamloops day.
As Ground Sense also specializes in hardscapes, the team laid the 2200 sq ft (78,000 lbs) of beautiful 24 inch hydra-pressed patio pavers. They laid the pavers by hand surrounding a curvey kidney-shaped pool. Each slab hand-cut, where needed to mimic the exact curves of the pool. A perfect accent for a perfect home!
